For years, Chris Penso managed an injury to his ankle and Achilles tendon that limited his mobility. As an MLS referee, Chris needed to be at the top of his game – so he sought care from a past connection for his ankle.
Benjamin Jackson, MD, a former soccer referee, knew Chris and performed surgery to repair his ankle. Chris was then back in top form just in time to officiate at the 2020 summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The human foot is a strong and complex mechanical structure containing 26 bones, 33 joints and more than one hundred muscles, tendons and ligaments. The ankle consists of three bones: the tibia, the fibula, and the talus. With so many moving parts, there are numerous conditions that may cause foot or ankle pain.
